OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, America's largest National volunteer organization, that in partnership with the community rehabilitates the homes of low-income homeowners. Particularly the elderly, disabled and families with children, so they can live in warmth, safety and independence.

OUR FOCUS

Rebuilding Together fills a pressing need in our mountain communities.  The rising cost of living and failing social service budgets have left some of our most vulnerable neighbors without the most basic of necessities; namely, a warm, safe and dry home.

As the economic pressure on low-income families grows, more and more families are placed in the position of choosing between vital necessities and essential home maintenance.  Rebuilding Together helps seniors and disabled homeowners "age in place"in their own homes by providing FREE home repairs and modifications, thus making homes safer, more accessible and more energy efficient.

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE

What is Rebuilding Together?

Christmas in April Mountain Communities was formed in 1994 as an incorporated 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit agency, whose purpose is to provide home repair and maintenance service to low-income elderly and/or disabled homeowners.  In 2005 our affiliate voted to adopt the name Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities in response to a directive from the National Organization.

What are the Goals of Rebuilding Together?

Rebuilding Together is about getting involved and making a difference in our community.  The goals of Rebuilding Together are three-fold:  1) To improve quality of life for our elderly and/or disabled citizens, 2) To create an avenue of service for our community members at large, and 3) To help restore and beautify each mountain community where we live and work.  In the past 15 years, our volunteers have refurbished over 200 homes and completed emergency repairs on many more, in addition to several community service facilities in our San Bernardino Mountain Communities.

Who Supports Rebuilding Together?

Rebuilding Together is supported entirely by individual contributions of money, time and materials.  This includes local businesses, community service organizations, private individuals, corporations, churches and foundations.  Through the combined efforts of many people from different walks of life, we form a team that comes together on a single day to help its neighbors in the American "barn-raising" tradition!

What is the National Scope?

In the year 2008, 204 Rebuilding Together affiliates rehabilitated 10022 projects and non-profit facilities nationwide, using over 200,000 volunteers.  The market value of services  rendered was $100 million.  Christmas in April Mountain Communities was the first program in San Bernardino County.

How are Homeowner Recipients Selected?

The Rebuilding Together Home Selection Team selects the projects based on 10 criteria, which include income, length of home ownership, disability, age, complexity of project, etc.  Recipients must be elderly and/or disabled homeowners who cannot work themselves, or

cannot maintain their homes due to limited income.

Who Does All That Work?

Volunteers from each mountain community provide the teamwork necessary to complete a number of assigned tasks; licensed contractors provide most professional skills necessary to successfully complete each project.
